Pregnancy is a wonderful thing for any woman. She is going to give birth to a baby is enough to make her glow. Her body changes throughout the pregnancy and the signs of pregnancy becomes more evident.  The abdomen and belly button of any women changes with the time during the pregnancy.

The belly button or navel is the body part where the umbilical cord is joined to the fetus. This umbilical cord runs from fetus to placenta and it supplies nutrients, oxygen to the fetus and also carries away the waste produced by the baby from the fetus.

The belly button of a woman changes with her pregnancy.  It pops out as the baby grows. So, when does the belly button comes out in pregnancy? The answer is from the second trimester. Pregnant women usually experience the changed appearance of their navel from the later period of their second trimester. It pops out and points outwards. It happens because the baby continues to grow and the uterus expands with the growing baby. This, in turn, pushes your abdomen forward and gives you a popped belly button. 

The truth is, belly button popping is a natural occurrence. It is not abnormal or bad. It is also not painful, but it may cause discomfort and pain in some women. If you feel discomfort then protect with a tummy sleeve. 

There are many myths associated with the popped belly button. Many women think that the belly button is connected to their other body parts. But this is not true. It is simply a place where your umbilical cord joins with your body. The most common myth is that belly buttons pop when a baby’s skull touches the button. But it is false. The baby never touches it and always remain protected inside the placenta with amniotic fluid. Some feel that the belly button is connected to the placenta, baby’s belly button, and the uterus. In reality, nothing is connected.

 Umbilical Hernia

Usually, belly buttons do not cause pain if they pop out. But some women feel pain around their navel. Doctors are still trying to find what causes the pain in some pregnant women. But many experts theorize that this pain happens because the belly button is located in the thinnest part of the human body.

In some cases, a popped belly button may cause an umbilical hernia.  This happens because a small hole in your abdominal wall may cause the tissues of the small intestine and another abdominal organ to protrude. It causes sharp pain and discomfort. But umbilical hernia is rare in p[regnant women.

 Symptoms-

  • A soft lump in your naval area that becomes more evident if you lie down
  • You feel pain in your naval area whenever you cough, sneeze or bend
  • You feel dull acne in your naval area

 Treatments

If the umbilical hernia is not bothering you then it will be best if you leave it as it is. Some pregnant ladies use message treatment until the belly button becomes normal.

You can wear a belly band or tummy sleeve to protect it and prevent it from popping out more. The umbilical hernia reduces with pregnancy and if it does not your doctor can prescribe exercise. So, a popped belly button is normal and in general harmless in pregnancy.
