How Body Adjusts To Environment?

Our body is a wonder machine. Its automatically adjusts to external environment factors. We humans can stay at the coldest of the places to hottest of deserts. But then it takes some time for our body to get used to a condition and then adjust. As per Colorado School of Medicine it takes three month for a human body to physiologically adapt to a change. If you go to a place where oxygen is less, the circulatory system and lungs attune to lower amount of oxygen.

Does high altitude affect our body?

High altitude has drastic affect on money. Some people feel disoriented or nauseated when they move to higher altitudes. For instance if you are an outdoor athlete, you will see a marked fall in performance if you shift to higher altitudes. This is because oxygen levels falls as altitude increases and body takes little time to adjust to the same.  Some athletes train but do not compete in high-altitudes. Basically, if you are prepared for tougher things, easier things will follow course without any kind of hassle. This is the amazing power of adjustment of human body.

High altitudes and people with pulmonary diseases

In case you are suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease high altitudes will worsen your condition. High altitudes are not good for people with heart issues, asthma, lung problem, bronchitis etc as lower oxygen levels will play havoc with your system. What’s’ more conditions like sleep apnea also become worse at high altitudes due to low oxygen concentration. But some studies have shown that if you stay at high altitudes for a very long time, your heart troubles might become better as body adapts to the change over the course of time.

Old age and dehydration

People who shift to beach areas usually company of dehydration as body does not cope up with extended hours of heat. Older adults are not able to register signs of thirst and as a result they do not consume adequate quantity of water, thus leading to dehydration. So, basically the body is not able to attune itself with the environmental changes. The best way to tackle heat exposure is by wearing a hat so that your total exposed body surface to heat is relatively less.  The same principal is applicable when you visit theme parks or go for rides in the heat. Wearing long-sleeved, lightweight clothes will do a lot of good and help you adjust to the outside heat in a better way.

Environmental Pollution

Due to fast industrialization there has been surge in pollutants in the air and land. Even the food which we eat is contaminated. In such as case the body is hit hardest as it is exposed to wide array of allergens and diseases. Over time, the immunity of the body becomes totally destroyed and it is unable to deal with onslaughts of diseases. This is the reason it is better to stay in allergy free, low pollution areas as long time exposure will definitely do a lot of harm. Even though human body adapts to its environment, there are certain things which cannot be ignored as prolonged onslaught will surely take its toll.
