How To Take Proper Care Of Your Feet

Your feet are one of the most important parts of your entire body. They are used constantly throughout the day, so not taking proper care of them can be very costly. You shouldn’t stop and just trimming your toenails now and again; the whole foot needs taking care of. A lot of people don’t really like feet, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect yours.

If your feet do become in need of some attention, then seeing a qualified professional is essential. Whether you are suffering from an ingrown toenail or general foot pain, finding a foot specialist is key.

However, there are some things you can do yourself to keep your feet in order. Here are some our tips:

Lotion

Most people will thing about putting lotion on their hands or feet to keep them nice and soft, but often forget about their feet. When you feel your hands getting dry and hard, your feet are probably getting the same way. Lotion can help. Putting some on at the end of the day before you go to bed can keep your feet feeling much better. Your feet can feel very dry, especially if your job involves a lot of standing around or moving. Using lotion will keep them hydrated.

Dealing with Sweaty Feet

If you are finding that your feet are always sweaty, you could be suffering from hyperhidrosis. It’s not a big deal. A good recommendation is to wash your feet thoroughly with antibacterial soap and dusting them with some kind of powder to remove excess moisture. You can also switch from cotton to synthetic socks, which wick sweat away instead of absorbing it. If that doesn’t work, try antiperspirant. This will block sweat glands on your feet, just as it does under your arms, having a similar effect. The other alternative is to have Botox injections. These tend to last several months but can cost upwards of $1,500.

Calluses

Calluses are typical hard knots of skin on your feet and hands. They form due to excess pressure on a certain point, so if you are on your feet all day, they can form on a certain area. They are completely harmless, and if they don’t bother you, just leave it alone, as they can’t do any harm. However, if they do bother you, then you can use a pumice stone to grind the skin away. Be careful though, because if it’s deep, you should see a professional.

Toenails

These are the things on your feet that you probably take care of the most, with good reason. Left unattended, toenails can grow excessively long and can become ingrown, which can be very painful. Occasionally, if the ingrown toenail is too bad, a professional foot care specialist will have to remove the toenail completely. Making sure that you check your toenails regularly and trimming them when they are too long will help prevent any becoming ingrown.

Taking proper care of your feet is not a time-consuming task, but if forgotten about, can lead to unpleasant and painful consequences. Make sure to check your feet often to keep them in order, and always make sure if the problem is getting worse, to see a specialist.
