Yoga is considered to be the best and safest exercise for any person. There is no age restriction in order to do yoga. It can be done by a small kid as well as an old age person. This is a means of keeping your body fit and at the same time keep yourself relaxed. As said yoga can be done by all – it is true for pregnant women also. Yoga is conducted for the expectant mothers – there are many yoga classes which offer specific pre-natal classes. This helps the expectant mothers to gear up for the child birth and also increases their stamina – physically and mentally. When the woman is expecting, there are many things to be taken care – among this one should also be careful about certain yoga positions which should be avoided during the pregnancy time.

The expectant mother should know about the yoga poses to avoid during pregnancy. The asanas are the poses which should be avoided by the expectant mothers. This should not be tried specially tried during the second trimester of pregnancy. These asanas are avoided because they need to lie on their back and the experts say that the blood flow to the uterus reduces while doing this. Besides this they are also not supposed to take postures like lying upside down either completely or partially. Such type of yoga exercises could increase the heart rate of the fetus which can be life threatening. But there have some recent studies which say that this type of asanas can be safe – provided you take a opinion from your doctor.

In order to ensure and check whether these different types of postures are safe yoga poses for pregnancy or not the researchers at the Jersey Shore University in New Jersey decided to monitor the heart rates of the fetus on a regular basis. This was monitored on 25 healthy expectant mothers who were supposed to be in their final trimester of pregnancy. The study was based on assuming that they are doing all 26 common yoga postures. Along with the heart rate of the fetus the experts also monitored the major issues and levels of oxygen in the blood.

The women neither had any major-medical problem which could affect their baby nor were these exercises a risk for them. Out of the total sample study, 10 women used to practice the asanas on a regular basis; 8 of them knew and were familiar about these exercises whereas there were 7 of them who were not at all aware about the exercises. Every expectant mother had a personalized yoga instructor who taught them all 26 yoga postures. There were no postures where the mother had to lie down on their back nor lying on the stomach neither they were lying completely upside down.

The research confirmed that there was no variation in the heart rate of the fetus during all the 26 postures. The women were then contacted to check whether they were facing any kind of problems of complications after this exercise and the answer was everything was perfect.
